Almost all countries have a combination of following reasons.
- Industrial revolution. If you look at pre 50-60s and post that there is a huge spike of type 2 diabetes. Why? Invention of mass produced processed foods like bread, beer, etc
- Medical industry suggesting an excess amount of carbs than required per day although indirectly they did better in high and low glycemic index and load ( this is going to be controversial ). But who has the time to read it? Look at the menu given to a diabetic patient in a hospital. It’s pathetic, loaded with high carb foods.
- Parents- Yes. Stop feeding your kids every other hour thinking that’s good for them.
- A lot of doctors do not have a clear communication to the patients. They say reduce weight. But how? You could only think, high levels of exercise. But do they explain if there are other alternatives like low carb foods for those who are unable to exercise. I could today, confidently say, I can get a 60 year old type 2 diabetes patient get his/her diabetes under control without medication / exercise, if they are willing to control what they eat. !!
- Sedentary life due to urbanization. Ok Covid was an exception 😊
- In Asian countries, the cases are increasing alarmingly in urban cities, reason being a combination of above points and a super high intake of carbs and lack of natural infrastructure like playgrounds for exercising. .
- There are a few studies that talk about Asian gene vs other genes. But look genes although I agree play a part, but cannot be the primary reason for increasing numbers in Asia.
